In present investigation, enzymatic transesterification of jatropha oil using lipase was studied. Reaction was carried out with suitable methanol : oil ration in the presence of enzyme. Synthesis of fatty acid methyl ester was monitored by gas chromatograph. The fuel properties of jatropha biodiesel were found to be improved from crude jatropha oil.
  • Development of an environment friendly process for production of biodiesel from jatropha oil where no application of acid or base is there.
  • Application of the lipase from Enterobactor auregens has been used for the first time for such transesterification studies.
  • In chemical transesterification process degummiing is one of the techniques which is carried out to take care of the phospholipids, present in oil gum which is not required for the present process.
  • The presence of free fatty acids in chemical transesterification process interfere resulting in saponification which can be overcome by the present process.
