A process is designed for refining an ultra pure porous Al2O3 powder from a self induced activated hydrolysis of waste Al-metal in flowing cooled water vapour at room temperature. It involves chemical reaction of H2O molecules with freshly created nascent Al-metal surface by a chemical treatment and surface deformation. Usual impurities of transition and other metals do not participate in this activated reaction, as it occurs pretty fast, so that only Al-metal hydrolyzes leaving behind byproduct impurities in base metal. A refined Al2O3 powder, porosity f ~ 50%, occurs in hydrolyzed Al-metal product recovered from top layers after heating at 300 to 4000C. It is as pure as up to ppm level as analyzed by its optical absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance epr.
