Patent  200129
Gallic acid can be obtained from various plant sources with the hydrolysis of the enzyme tannase which catalyses the ester bonds in the hydrolysable tannin and thereby releasing Gallic acid and glucose. At present, India has to import Gallic acid to meet the requirement. Myrobalan and Teri pod are two such tannin rich agro residues, which have been considered for the present study. The newly isolated two strains namely Rhizopus Oryzae (RO IIT RB13 NRRL 21498) and Aspergillus foetidus have used for bioconversion studies and the process was found to be economically viable.
