A Process for the preparation of ferrous based composite

 The process developed utilizes the aluminothermic reduction of industrial waste material, namely, siliceous sand (source of Fe2O3 and TiO2) in presence of graphite powder to produce similar kind of composites. Such composites show impressive wears resistance and thus can find application as wear resistance materials. The wear resistance property of the composite is better than some commercially available tool steels. Thus this thermit route of synthesis of our composites is a novel attempt to produce a useful grade of materials from an industrial waste material through a very low cost, simple process.
