A new chemical method of surface hydrolysis of Al-metal with nascent surface is developed for processing an amorphous AlO(OH), H2O gel with dispersed metal cations Mq+ in an aqueous solution. A self induced reaction occurs as soon as Al-metal chips with nascent surface are immersed in Mq+ solution at 30 to 700C and results in a viscous Mq+: AlO(OH), H2O mass. That slowly turns into a gel on evaporating the excess water at room temperature. On thermal decomposition and co-reduction at 500 to 8500C in H2 gas it gives encapsulated metal nano-particles in thin corrosion resistant Al2O3 surface layer. The tested Mq+ cations were of cobalt, nickel, iron or copper. |
